Bridal Hair and Makeup FAQs

Everything you need to know about booking your bridal hair and makeup with Adie Brooks — from your first enquiry to the morning of your wedding.

Who is Hair and Makeup by Adie?

Adie Brooks is an award-winning luxury bridal hair and makeup artist serving brides across London and the Home Counties. With over 20 years of industry experience, editorial credits in Vogue UK and Vogue Japan, and recognition as a Top Hair & Makeup Artist in London by Weddings & Honeymoons magazine, Adie is one of the most trusted names in bridal beauty in the capital and beyond.

She is known for creating naturally beautiful, elegantly refined bridal looks — polished and considered, with a deeply personal approach to every bride she works with. She also holds specialist expertise in East Asian bridal hair and makeup, and is herself half-Chinese.

Does Adie work from a salon?

No — Adie comes to you. As a fully mobile bridal hair and makeup artist, she attends your venue, hotel, or home on the morning of your wedding, so you can get ready in calm, familiar surroundings without the stress of travelling anywhere. Whether you’re marrying in central London, a country house in Hertfordshire or Buckinghamshire, or at a destination venue abroad, Adie brings everything she needs to you.

What areas does Adie cover?

Adie regularly works across London and the Home Counties, including Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Berkshire, Bedfordshire, and Cambridgeshire. She is also available for destination weddings worldwide.

Travel within the first 10 miles is complimentary. Beyond that, mileage is charged at 65p per mile, confirmed at the time of booking. If you’re unsure whether your venue is covered, please get in touch.

How far in advance should I book a bridal hair and makeup artist?

Most brides book their hair and makeup artist 12–18 months before their wedding date, particularly for popular summer and autumn Saturdays. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday bookings are in highest demand and are subject to a minimum booking of £750. If your date is within the next six months, it’s worth enquiring as soon as possible.

Adie takes on a limited number of weddings each year to ensure every bride receives her full, dedicated attention — so early enquiry is always recommended.

How do I book Hair and Makeup by Adie?

Get in touch via the contact form with your wedding date, venue, and an idea of the services you’ll need. Adie will confirm availability and arrange a consultation to discuss your vision, bridal party size, and any specific requirements. To secure your date, a signed contract and a non-refundable deposit of 25% of your total booking are required. The final balance is due six weeks before your wedding.

Can Adie accommodate my whole bridal party?

Yes. Adie provides hair and makeup for brides, bridesmaids, mothers of the bride or groom, flower girls, and other members of the wedding party. For larger parties, an additional stylist or two can be arranged. When you enquire, please include the number of people requiring services so Adie can plan your morning schedule accurately.

If the client cancels their booking within one month or less of the event then the fees in full plus any expenses incurred as at the date of cancellation(less any monies paid) shall be due to the Hair and Makeup Artist.

In the event that the client is unhappy at their trial with their hair/makeup and wish to cancel their booking they must notify the Hair and Makeup Artist via email within 24 hours. If it is six months or more until the event date the client will receive back the deposit minus any  expenses incurred. In these circumstances the client is still liable to pay for the hair and makeup trial and any travel/parking costs even if they do not want to proceed with using the Hair and Makeup Artist for the event.

Do I need a bridal hair and makeup trial?

Trials are available to booked brides only — once your wedding date is confirmed and your deposit is in place, Adie will arrange your trial at a time convenient to you. A trial is strongly recommended and considered an essential part of the bridal process. It’s your opportunity to work with Adie before the wedding day — to design and refine your look, address any concerns, and ensure you feel completely confident before the morning itself. Most brides book their trial 3–6 months before the wedding. Trials take place Monday to Thursday during daytime hours.

What happens at a bridal hair and makeup trial?

Your trial is a relaxed, collaborative session — not a test, but a creative conversation. Adie will work with you to design and refine your complete bridal look, discussing your dress, accessories, venue, and any inspiration you’ve gathered. She’ll walk you through the products she’s using, address any skin concerns or sensitivities, and adapt the look until it feels completely right.

Trials take place at Adie’s private studio in Hertfordshire, HP4. A standard Bridal Hair and Makeup Trial lasts 3 hours. Extended Trials last 4 hours and are recommended for brides who want to explore Hollywood waves, a second look for the evening, or multiple styling options. For London brides, Adie is happy to collect you from either Hemel Hempstead station (25 minutes from London Euston) or Chesham station (Metropolitan line) and return you afterwards — so getting here is easier than you might think.

What should I bring to my bridal hair and makeup trial?

Inspiration images are really helpful — from Pinterest, Instagram, or wedding magazines — alongside photos of your dress and accessories if you have them. If you’re planning to wear a veil, tiara, or hair accessory, bring those along so Adie can incorporate them into the look. Come with clean, dry hair and a bare face so the session can begin straight away.

A note on inspiration images: real photography is always more useful than AI-generated images, which can suggest styles that aren’t achievable in practice. Where possible, include both front and side views of any hairstyles you love — this makes it much easier to understand the full shape and structure of a look before recreating it.

Can I book without having a trial?

Yes, though it isn’t recommended. If a trial genuinely isn’t possible, Adie will arrange a video consultation beforehand to discuss your ideas, preferences, and any concerns, so the wedding morning goes as smoothly as possible. A small fee of £25 applies for video consultations

What is included in a wedding day booking?

Your wedding day booking includes Adie attending your venue, hotel, or home to provide hair and/or makeup services for the bride and party. You receive a draft timeline with your proposal so you can visualise how the morning will flow — this is finalised together after your bridal trial.

Adie arrives at least 15 minutes before the start of services to set up. On the morning itself, the bride is typically done just before getting dressed — Adie then completes one further member of the party while the bride puts on her dress, making the most of that time and ensuring everyone is ready with contingency to spare. Adie also stays for an hour after final touch-ups are complete, so there’s no need to feel rushed before you leave for your ceremony.

For larger parties or later start times, an additional stylist can be arranged at £150.

Are there additional costs for travel?

The first 10 miles are complimentary. Beyond that, mileage is charged at 65p per mile. Any parking charges on the day are also payable by the bride. For destination weddings, travel and accommodation costs are agreed in advance at the time of booking.

How is the morning schedule managed?

You receive a draft timeline with your proposal so you can visualise how the morning will flow. This is finalised together after your bridal trial, once your look and timings are confirmed, and sent to you by email so the whole party knows their slot in advance.

Adie arrives at least 15 minutes before the start of services to set up. The bride is typically done just before getting dressed — Adie then completes one further member of the party while the bride puts on her dress, making the most of that time and ensuring everyone is ready with contingency to spare.

How long does bridal hair and makeup take on the wedding day?

The bride’s hair and makeup typically takes 2.5 hours on the wedding day, or 3.5 hours if Hollywood waves are included. Each additional member of the party takes approximately 45 minutes per service — so 45 minutes for hair only or makeup only, and 1.5 hours for both. Your schedule will be built around your specific party size and ceremony time.

Will my makeup last all day?

Yes. All products are chosen for their longevity and professional performance. Your look is designed to last from morning through to midnight. Every bride receives a touch-up kit of essentials to take with her on the day, including blotting papers, powder, hair grips, a mascara spoolie for lashes, a touch-up lip colour, and cotton tips — everything you need to stay fresh from ceremony through to the last dance.

What products does Adie use?

Adie works with a carefully curated kit of professional, high-performance products selected for their longevity, skin-friendly formulas, and beautiful finish on camera. Brands include Charlotte Tilbury, NARS, Giorgio Armani, Hourglass, Laura Mercier, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Makeup by Mario and MAC, among others. If you have any known allergies, sensitivities, or a product you know works well with your skin, please let Adie know ahead of your trial.

I have sensitive skin — is that a concern?

Not at all. Adie uses products that are hypo-allergenic and carefully chosen with a range of skin types in mind. If you have had reactions to products in the past, please mention this when you enquire and at your trial — she is happy to work around specific sensitivities, apply a skin barrier cream before makeup where needed, and use your own products where preferred.

Does Adie travel for destination weddings?

Yes. Adie has experience working with destination wedding clients and has travelled for weddings in Europe and beyond. If you’re planning a destination wedding, please get in touch as early as possible to discuss your date, location, and requirements. Travel and accommodation costs for destination bookings are confirmed at enquiry stage.

Does Adie have experience with East Asian brides?

Yes — this is one of Adie’s most established and sought-after specialisms. Around a quarter of her bridal clients are East Asian, and she has extensive experience working with brides from Chinese, Hong Kong, Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese, Filipino, Nepal, Brunei and wider East and Southeast Asian backgrounds.

As someone who is half-Chinese herself, this work is both professional and personal. Adie brings a genuine understanding of East Asian facial features, skin behaviour, and cultural expectations — approaching every bride’s look with sensitivity, technical precision, and real confidence.

What makes Adie's approach to East Asian bridal makeup different?

East Asian skin tones and features require specific expertise that many generalist makeup artists simply don’t have. Adie’s approach is highly tailored, with particular attention to:

  • Eye shape and lid structure — including monolids and hooded eyes, where liner and shadow placement requires a different technique to create beautiful definition without overwhelming the eye
  • Foundation matching — selecting shades and undertones that won’t oxidise or pull pink or grey on East Asian skin
  • Longevity — creating looks that last beautifully through long wedding days, tea ceremonies, banquets, and multiple outfit changes
  • Photography — ensuring the look translates beautifully both in person and on camera

Her style is always natural, refined, and elevating — never heavy or masked.

Can Adie incorporate traditional Chinese, Japanese, or Korean bridal elements?
Absolutely. Whether you’re having a traditional ceremony, a tea ceremony, a banquet, or a modern celebration — or a combination of all of these — Adie is experienced in blending traditional bridal beauty elements with a contemporary, personal look. Many of her East Asian brides have multiple outfit changes throughout the day, and she can advise on how to plan looks that transition seamlessly from one to the next.
